Russia is besieging cities in Donbass

After it became clear that Putin and Trump would meet in Alaska, Russia has been intensifying attacks on the Donbass front and attempting to encircle key cities. These actions are believed to be directly related to the meeting in Alaska.
In recent days, several sources have reported that Russia's offensive aimed at fully capturing the Donetsk region is progressing successfully. There are reports that the cities of Pokrovsk and Mirnograd are nearly surrounded by Russian troops.
Additionally, Konstantinovka is also on the brink of encirclement. Russian forces are advancing towards Kramatorsk and Drujkivka.
According to information from the Ukrainian side, the advance of the Russians is occurring due to the command errors of the Ukrainian forces, a lack of military resources, and incorrect strategy. According to Azov battalion officer Bogdan Krotevich, the situation is very severe, but officials have not yet provided an official comment on this matter.
Some publications emphasize that Russian troops have broken through the defense line in the Donbass region and advanced 18 kilometers. Currently, they are using light military equipment and motorcycles, lacking strong defense.
The Ukrainian side is not seriously expending efforts to conduct active counterattacks in this direction. If Russia continues this action and captures the cities of Kramatorsk, Slavyansk, and Dobropole, the Donetsk region will be fully under control.
So far, Kyiv has not officially commented on these losses. If the information is confirmed, Ukraine will have lost the most territory in a short period during 2024.
For Russia, the minimal goal in the war is to fully capture Donbass. Over the past year, the Russians have been focusing specifically on the Donetsk region, paying less attention to other directions.
After it became clear that Putin would go to Alaska, the attacks intensified. This indicates that the military leadership has ordered Putin to present a successful image during his meeting with Trump.
If Russia achieves its goal, Putin will be in a strong position in Alaska. Moscow has been emphasizing in recent years that the goal of the war is not to fully capture Ukraine, but to gain control over Donbass.
During the meeting with Trump, Putin might say, "We have achieved our goal – Donbass has been fully captured, now I will listen to you." In such a situation, it will be difficult for Trump to exert pressure on Russia.
Thus, dear students, before a crucial meeting that will determine the fate of the war, Russia may achieve a strategic victory. This complicates the situation for Kyiv even further.
