Opposition parties in India are complaining about the unfairness of the election commission during the process of the 2024 general elections. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to them, there have been instances of vote tampering and other violations during the elections. The session was suspended when opposition members demanded discussions on issues related to the electoral system in Parliament.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi stated, relying on the data from the election commission, that there are hundreds of thousands of fake or duplicate entries in the voter list. He emphasized that in some areas, dozens or even hundreds of people have been registered at the same address.
Additionally, it was mentioned that video recordings from polling stations have been deleted. The election commission and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party rejected these allegations as baseless.
The commission demanded that Gandhi either prove his claims or apologize in public. Government representatives are accusing the opposition of undermining democratic institutions.
During the investigation that began in June, 6.5 million names were removed from the voter list. The commission states that this was due to duplicate entries, deceased individuals, and those who have moved to other regions.
Critics point out that voters, particularly migrants and representatives of minorities, have been unjustly removed from the list. The Supreme Court of India has stated that there is currently insufficient evidence for widespread voter deregistration, but has indicated that swift measures will be taken if such cases are proven.
