In 2028, the city of Samarkand may host one of the largest international space events, the International Astronautical Congress (IAC). This was reported by Zamin.uz.
If this plan is realized, representatives of the world's leading space industry, scientific centers, major agencies, and startups will unite in our country. Approximately 10,000 participants attend the IAC event each year.
Among them are international space agencies, research institutes, technology companies, and startups. In previous years, this event has been held in cities such as Baku (2023), Milan (2024), Paris (2022), Dubai (2021), Washington (2019), Bremen (2018), and Adelaide (2017).
For example, the IAC-2022 in Paris strengthened France's position in the global space sector, and after the 2017 event in Australia, a space agency was established in the country. As a candidate, representatives of Uzcosmos officially proposed to hold the 2028 event in Samarkand.
If this happens, our country will open new opportunities for expanding international cooperation, joint scientific research, and startups. It will also create the possibility of attracting foreign investors for the construction of scientific centers, technoparks, and incubators.
During the preparation process, the Executive Director of the International Astronautical Federation, Christian Feyhtinger, visited Samarkand and Tashkent, studying the infrastructure, material and technical base, transportation, and hotel systems. Security measures and conditions for social events were also assessed.
At the same time, Elon Musk has participated several times as a special guest at IAC events and presented his successful space projects. If the event is held in Samarkand in 2028, there is a possibility of his personal participation, but this has not yet been officially confirmed.
