Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy visited Washington with the aim of meeting Donald Trump. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He emphasized his country's desire to end military actions and achieve long-term peace. According to Zelenskiy, the whole world wants to stop the war and restore peace as soon as possible.
However, this peace must be stable and long-lasting. The president stated that ending the war quickly and reliably is our common goal.
He recalled that several years ago, parts of Crimea and Donbass were separated from Ukraine. Putin has used this as a base for new attacks.
Zelenskiy stressed that such situations must not be repeated. Although security guarantees were given to Ukraine in 1994, they proved ineffective.
After 2022, important cities such as Kyiv, Odesa, and Kharkiv were defended, and Crimea should not have been lost either. Zelenskiy also noted that the people of Ukraine and its military have achieved significant successes in the Donetsk and Sumy regions.
Expressing gratitude to the United States and European countries, he emphasized that their support is very important for Ukraine. In his opinion, Russia must stop the war it started, and together with the US and European allies, Russia can be forced into genuine peace.
Donald Trump, on the eve of Zelenskiy's visit to Washington, stated that if Ukraine wants to end the war quickly, it must give up Crimea and refuse to join NATO. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Kyiv is not being pressured, but a peace agreement may not be reached.
On August 18, an important meeting is planned at the White House with the participation of Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, and European leaders. According to media reports, Kyiv and Europe still do not fully understand the results of the three-hour conversation between the US and Russian leaders in Alaska.
For this reason, Trump is expected to provide them with explanations on this matter.
