Confirmed demolition of Navoi statue in Mazar-i-Sharif
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan contacted Afghan officials following reports of the demolition of the Alisher Navoi statue in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

The ministry issued an official statement regarding this incident. According to the information, the local authorities demolished the statue because the area where it was located did not correspond to the memory of the great thinker.

At the same time, plans are underway to build a more beautiful complex dedicated to the poet and thinker. The Ministry of Culture of Afghanistan stated that it was not informed in advance about these actions.

Kabul expressed regret over the incident and announced that a new statue in honor of Alisher Navoi and a square dedicated to him will be established. The Afghan side emphasized its commitment to preserving the memory of the great thinker and stated that all necessary measures will be taken to appropriately honor his name.

It should be recalled that after the Taliban came to power, several monuments related to Navoi in Afghanistan were damaged. In 2023, his bas-relief and graffiti were damaged, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan expressed regret over this situation.

This event necessitates the continuation of efforts aimed at respecting the memory of the great poet and thinker.
