Scientists from China and America have developed a new and efficient type of cement in the construction field. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Unlike traditional cement and ordinary concrete, this new cement reduces heat accumulation in buildings and cools them effectively. This discovery is considered an important innovation in construction material technology.
The research results were published in the journal Science Advances. According to the scientists, the new mixture helps lower indoor temperatures by approximately 5 degrees Celsius on hot days.
When the cement hardens, a special structure resembling crystals of the natural mineral ettringite forms on its surface. This structure highly reflects visible light and almost completely transmits mid-infrared radiation.
As a result, the interior temperature of buildings remains low even on scorching days. The new material is called “photon-structured cement.”
It was developed by a team of Chinese and American experts led by Professor Miao Chanven from Southeast University of the People's Republic of China. This cement aims to eliminate the main drawbacks of traditional cement.
Traditional cement reflects only 30 percent of sunlight and heat in tropical and hot regions, which significantly increases building temperatures. Using the new material, scientists created small models of houses and tested their reactions to sunlight and heat.
The studies showed that while the temperature of walls coated with traditional cement reached 60-70 degrees Celsius during the hottest times of the day, it dropped to 30-35 degrees Celsius with photon-structured cement. This allowed the indoor temperature to decrease by about 5 degrees.
This technology will help significantly reduce cooling costs for buildings in the future and serve as an effective tool against the effects of climate change. According to the scientists, the new cement can be widely used not only in hot and tropical regions but also in any heat-sensitive cities.
This innovation plays an important role in energy saving and improving the ecological environment in the construction sector. Buildings constructed with photon-structured cement will not only be sustainable and environmentally friendly but also provide a comfortable and cool living environment for residents.
