The leader of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, proposed the establishment of a joint scientific base on the Moon at the 25th meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Russia's RBK publication, Xi Jinping is calling on the SCO member states to actively participate in the project being carried out together with Russia.
This initiative is aimed at developing regional and global space cooperation. Currently, the construction of an International Scientific Lunar Station is planned.
This project is being implemented in cooperation between Russia's Roscosmos agency and China's National Space Administration. The construction of the station is expected to take place from 2031 to 2035.
According to Wu Yanhua, head of China's deep space exploration program, by 2035 the base will enable scientific research within a 100-kilometer radius of the Moon's south pole. This will provide new opportunities for in-depth study of geological and space processes on the Moon.
The idea of building an international scientific station on the Moon was first proposed in 2021. Within the framework of the project, a facility at the south pole is being prepared for comprehensive research.
This step is regarded as an important scientific achievement for the international space community. Through this project, new cooperation and achievements in the field of space research are expected.
