US President Donald Trump's administration concluded that a peace agreement regarding Ukraine will not be reached in the near future. This was reported by sources from Reuters. Officials in Washington acknowledge that the war between Russia and Ukraine is unlikely to stop in the coming months, emphasizing that the chances of resolving the conflict diplomatically are very low.
In this regard, the US administration is developing new mechanisms to exert pressure on Russia and Kyiv. According to Fox News journalist Jackie Heinrich, Donald Trump is dissatisfied with Vladimir Putin and believes that the Russian leadership is artificially prolonging peace negotiations. Therefore, the White House is considering options for imposing new sanctions against Russia. Among them are measures against the "secret fleet" that helps Russia circumvent oil export restrictions.
According to Reuters sources, the US government is discussing ways to intensify economic and diplomatic pressure on Russia. Washington notes that the Kremlin is unyielding to US pressure and is not ready for negotiations.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized that President Trump has lost hope in both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky. According to her, Trump wants to end this conflict as soon as possible, as people are dying on both sides and the war is dragging on for too long.
“The president wants this conflict to end as soon as possible. People are dying on both sides, and the war has dragged on too long. Our team continues to work with both Russia and Ukraine,” Jean-Pierre said.
On March 30, Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with Putin's words that cast doubt on Zelensky's political legitimacy, threatening to impose a 25 percent secondary tariff on Russian oil exports if Moscow does not agree to a peace deal.
Earlier, during his campaign, Trump promised to end the conflict in Ukraine within 24 hours. However, after returning to the White House, this deadline was significantly extended. According to the Financial Times, Western and Ukrainian officials have indicated that Trump and Putin are discussing the possibility of a ceasefire around Easter (April 20) or May 9.
Thus, the issue of the Ukraine conflict and sanctions against Russia remains one of the central aspects of US foreign policy. While Washington plans to force Russia into negotiations through pressure, the likelihood of a prolonged war is also increasing.
