According to Austria's Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, the country does not aim to join NATO and considers maintaining its neutrality status to be in its best interest. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
She stated this in an interview with Bloomberg agency. The minister emphasized that Austria's non-membership in NATO offers certain advantages.
Furthermore, she highlighted the necessity of prioritizing dialogue in any geopolitical situation. “We are not members of NATO, and I am also not in favor of joining.
There are advantages to this,” said Meinl-Reisinger. Additionally, the minister stressed the need to reconsider Austria's security policy in accordance with new geopolitical conditions.
In her opinion, the concept of neutrality should not be allowed to be used as a weapon in favor of Russia's interests. On September 1, Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern also stated that the country's NATO membership is not currently on the agenda, and Austria's neutrality status is not being questioned.
At the same time, Austria strives to continue its independent policy and maintain regional stability. This situation serves to further strengthen the country's unique position on the international stage.
