US President Donald Trump has recently begun to seriously doubt his ability to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war in Ukraine. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
A number of influential Western publications have disseminated information about this situation. Previously, Trump had publicly promised several times to quickly end the war.
However, he now admits that he cannot call on Putin to peace through negotiations. According to the Axios publication, the White House leader told his advisers that he had misjudged the Kremlin leader's intentions regarding peace talks.
Trump has repeatedly emphasized that if the fighting continues in Ukraine, tough measures will be taken against Russia. Recently, in a speech on the Truth Social platform, he stated that Washington is ready to impose new sanctions against Moscow.
At the same time, he noted that NATO countries must also take strict measures and stop purchasing Russian oil. According to him, this war is not his, but Biden's and Zelensky's war.
Trump stressed that he is trying to stop the war and aims to save the lives of thousands of Russians and Ukrainians. He called the death of 7,118 people in one week a great tragedy and said that if NATO takes the necessary measures, the war will end quickly.
On September 14, Trump criticized Europe for buying oil from Russia during a conversation with journalists. He called on Europe to strengthen sanctions in coordination with Washington.
During the presidential election campaign, Trump promised to stop the war within 24 hours. For this purpose, he spoke with Putin several times by phone.
Later, on August 15, a face-to-face meeting was held in Alaska. The negotiations, which lasted about three hours, yielded no practical results, and even a temporary agreement was not reached.
After the meeting, Trump expressed a positive opinion and highly evaluated the dialogue with Putin on Fox News. However, many analysts consider the Alaska summit a defeat for the White House and a political victory for the Kremlin.
Recently, Trump's statements such as "Putin has gone crazy" and "There is no hope from him" have been observed to have no effect on the Russian leader. At the same time, after Trump's initial confident promises, the possibility of reaching an agreement with the Kremlin is gradually decreasing.
