The Tokyo police have arrested 21-year-old security inspector Ryu Matsumoto, who worked at Haneda Airport. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He is suspected of stealing cash while inspecting passengers' luggage. Matsumoto told investigators that due to the stress of his job, he had considered quitting and sought excitement through theft.
He also admitted that he intended to spend the stolen money on living expenses. According to reports, Matsumoto has been working for the security company since April and is responsible for monitoring passengers under a contract with Japan Airlines.
The police are investigating that since August, he has stolen a total of 1.5 million yen, approximately 10,000 dollars, from 70-80 passengers. The latest incident occurred on Saturday evening.
While distracting a passenger, Matsumoto secretly took 90,000 yen and hid it in a paper roll in the restroom. The passenger noticed the money was missing, and the suspect was identified through surveillance camera footage.
