A British couple who had been held captive in Afghanistan for eight months were released through the mediation of Qatar. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
80-year-old Peter Reynolds and 76-year-old Barbie Reynolds were detained on February 1 while returning to their home. They had been living in Bamyan province for nearly twenty years.
Initially, the couple was held in the central prison in Kabul, but following negotiations, they were transferred to another prison. Qatari officials planned to first take them to Doha for a medical examination and then send them to the United Kingdom.
The release of the Reynolds was achieved as a result of long-term public appeals made by their family. Family members had been requesting assistance from the government and international organizations for several months.
Additionally, in a recent interview given by an American woman named Faye Hall, it was emphasized that the Reynolds were in harsh conditions in prison and that time was not on their side. This situation was a significant factor in their release.
