The Good University Guide 2026 ranking published in the United Kingdom witnessed a historic change. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
For the past 32 years, Oxford and Cambridge universities have consistently been in the top three, but this year they dropped out of the top three. This situation sparked widespread discussion and interest in the field of education.
According to the new ranking results, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) took first place for the second consecutive year. The University of St Andrews ranked second, and Durham University came in third.
At the same time, Oxford and Cambridge universities made it into the top four, although they had never previously fallen outside the top three. Durham University was named "University of the Year."
LSE was also recognized as the "Best University of the Year for Academic Performance" and won the "Russell Group University" nominations. These achievements once again confirmed the high potential of these institutions in terms of education quality.
The ranking took into account criteria such as education quality, student experience, level of scientific research, sustainability, and graduate employment opportunities. Additionally, extra scholarships, grants, and favorable conditions created for students were also evaluated as important factors.
According to experts, the admission process to leading universities is becoming increasingly competitive. Students choosing to study closer to their homes is creating new opportunities for some universities.
This is expected to lead to stronger competition within the education system and the emergence of new conditions.
