A unique medical procedure performed by doctors in Turkey's Agri province attracted wide public attention. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
After a 22-year-old woman diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder was admitted to the hospital, two pens were successfully removed from her stomach. Upon receiving information that the patient had swallowed pens, the medical team quickly prepared for surgery.
The surgery, performed with the help of endoscopy, lasted about one and a half hours. During this process, in addition to the two pens, a lead piece and another small object were also removed from the stomach.
According to the surgeon Adem Aslan who performed the operation, they had previously encountered various small objects, but this was the first time they observed such long and thin items. It was revealed that the patient had a habit of swallowing different objects due to obsessive-compulsive disorder.
The operation was successful, the patient was monitored in the hospital for one day and then discharged home. Specialists emphasize that patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder may exhibit compulsive behaviors.
In some cases, these behaviors pose serious health risks. Therefore, such patients need not only medical but also psychological support.
This is important in reducing the consequences of the disease.
