Leaders of the Democrats in the US Congress consider it necessary to hold a meeting with President Donald Trump soon to prevent the risk of a federal government shutdown. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In their appeal to the president, they emphasized that the Republicans' refusal to fund healthcare is complicating the situation further. According to the Democrats, the Republicans' delay in funding and the decisions being made that could lead to a government shutdown are a serious problem.
For this reason, they are demanding an immediate meeting. They accuse the Republicans of deliberately rejecting consultations between the two parties.
According to the Democrats, the current situation is a problem that threatens the effective functioning of the state apparatus rather than just a political dispute. At the same time, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Mike Johnson, denies the Democrats' accusations.
In his opinion, it is the Democrats who are halting the work process by making impossible demands to pass the government funding law. It is worth noting that on September 19, Donald Trump announced that if the parties in Congress do not reach a compromise by October 1, the federal government operations will be suspended.
On the same day, the Senate rejected two bills to continue funding. Given the current situation, an intensification of political debates and disputes in Washington is expected in the coming days.
A government shutdown could negatively affect not only government institutions but also the daily lives of millions of Americans.
