In an interview with AFP agency, city police representative Javed Ahmad Abro said that the bodies of three transgender women with serious gunshot injuries were found near the highway.
Amnesty International notes an increase in violence against transgender communities. Although the Senate approved a law protecting the rights of transgender persons in 2018, its main provisions were later annulled by the Sharia court.
Estimates indicate that there are approximately half a million transgender citizens in Pakistan, living under social isolation and the threat of violence. According to data from The Lancet in 2023, 90 percent of transgender individuals face physical violence.
