Belgium has announced that it has joined the countries recognizing Palestine as an independent state. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The country's Prime Minister Bart De Wever announced this at the United Nations General Assembly session. According to him, Belgium has long supported a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine.
Today, it has strengthened its position among the countries that signed the New York Declaration. De Wever emphasized that only through a two-state solution can the peoples of Israel and Palestine live together in peace and security.
He also criticized the recent statements of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejecting the Palestinian state. According to De Wever, these statements provide an even stronger reason to protect and support the Palestinians.
In this regard, Belgium is sending an important political signal to the whole world by recognizing Palestine. This decision is regarded as a significant step aimed at supporting the peace process in the region.
The Belgian government has expressed its readiness to continue this approach.
