Former US President Donald Trump's administration is proposing a new financial penalty for migrants who have a deportation order but have not left the country, according to Kursiv.media.
According to the proposal, individuals subject to deportation will have to pay a fine of $998 for each day they remain in the US.
These rules could be applied retroactively for up to 5 years, potentially resulting in the accumulation of millions of dollars in debt.
According to ICE calculations, this measure could apply to around 1.4 million individuals with deportation orders. If the payment is not made, their property will be confiscated.
