The US is demanding that New Delhi limit its purchases of Russian oil as a key condition in the process of concluding a new trade agreement with India. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Reuters agency, during the negotiations, Washington representatives informed their Indian counterparts about the necessity to reduce the purchase of Russian oil in order to lower tariffs and sign a trade agreement. Although American officials emphasized that the talks are progressing well, they noted that additional efforts are needed to gain access to the US market, increase trade volume, and reduce energy imports from Russia.
Thus, Washington is encouraging India through the new agreement to reduce economic ties with Russia and strengthen its own interests. This process is expected to bring trade relations between the two countries to a new level.
