NASA specialists are studying the risk associated with the asteroid named 2024 YR4. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to scientists, this asteroid could pose a threat to the orbit around the Moon in 2032. Various measures are being considered to prevent this event from occurring.
The first option is to slightly alter the asteroid's trajectory. This method helps avoid collision, but neglecting the exact mass of the asteroid could lead to dangerous consequences.
The second option involves completely breaking apart the asteroid. Calculations suggest that a nuclear explosion of about one megaton could fragment 2024 YR4 into smaller, safer pieces.
Nevertheless, experts emphasize that there is currently insufficient information about the asteroid. Therefore, detailed study is planned when the asteroid approaches in 2028.
These studies will be crucial in the future for reducing risk and determining necessary measures. The NASA team will continuously monitor the asteroid's movement and implement necessary actions to ensure safety.
