In October, meteor showers appear in the Moscow sky

In October, rare meteor showers will be observed in the Moscow sky. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

According to Evgeniya Kravchenko, a senior researcher at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, two major and four minor meteor streams will occur this month. The first major meteor shower – the Orionids – lasts from October 2 to November 7.

Its peak activity will be on the night of October 22. At this time, around 9:30 PM is considered the best time to observe the sky, as it coincides with the new moon phase peak, creating ideal conditions.

The second major meteor stream – the Draconids – will be visible from October 6 to 10. Its brightest phase will be reached on October 9.

Kravchenko recommends focusing on the Ursa Major constellation when observing these meteors, although the strong moonlight may somewhat hinder the observation. Additionally, there are minor meteor showers in October as well.

Among them, the Camelopardalids on October 5, Delta Aurigids on October 11, Southern Taurids on October 13, and Epsilon Geminids on October 18 can be seen. Their best viewing time is around 10:00 PM.

Experts advise those wishing to witness these celestial events to leave the city, find a wide open space, and avoid using phones or strong light sources. It is also recommended to allow 15–20 minutes for eyes to adjust to the darkness.

This method helps to see the meteor showers more clearly and brightly. Using a red light for illumination is advisable.
