The UK government has decided to remove bicycle theft from the list of crimes due to the increased workload of the police. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Cases of bicycle theft have increased in the country, and the police are unable to pursue them quickly and effectively. Therefore, this type of crime is no longer considered an official subject of investigation.
This decision has sparked mixed reactions among bicycle owners and ordinary citizens in cities. From now on, if a bicycle parked for more than two hours goes missing, reporting it to the police is considered ineffective, as the chances of finding or recovering them are very low.
This situation may be a source of dissatisfaction and concern for some people. According to the government’s statement, the main reason for the decision is that the police’s existing resources and number of personnel are insufficient to cover the increasing number of crimes.
At the same time, since investigating a large number of bicycle thefts has exceeded the state's control capabilities, legal measures will not be applied for missing bicycles. Thus, the police are trying to focus more on other important crimes.
The social consequences of this change and the protection of bicycle owners' rights may be reconsidered in the future.
