According to Qamchibek Tashiyev, head of the Kyrgyzstan National Security Committee, in 2026 the former Jalalabad city, now Manas city, may receive the status of the third city of republican significance. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was reported by Uz24.uz. According to Tashiyev, some politicians have emphasized the possibility of Manas city becoming the capital.
He said: “If we are ready for this, why not? Time will tell.
However, to become the capital, not only the city but also the people must be ready. This process requires large investments, new infrastructure, and modernity.” Tashiyev also stated that renaming Jalalabad city to Manas was a strategically correct decision.
He emphasized that the city has begun to play an important role in the country's development and deserves the new status. Currently, large-scale construction and infrastructure works are rapidly ongoing in Manas city.
According to the plan, the city is expected to become one of the most modern and developed centers in Kyrgyzstan. It should be recalled that on September 17, the name of Jalalabad city was officially changed to Manas.
Currently, more than 184 thousand people live in the city, approximately 30 percent of whom belong to the Uzbek nationality.
