In Varanasi, India, a 43-year-old prisoner named Ramjit Yadav managed to escape from prison in a movie-style manner. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to The Times of India, his trick resembled the character Andy Dufresne from the famous film “The Shawshank Redemption.” Ramjit had been imprisoned for the death of his wife, but he secured his release by presenting the prison ledger as collateral.
Later, he withdrew 30,000 rupees (approximately 338 dollars) from the prison account. Three other people helped carry out this plan – a fellow prisoner who resembled him, the prison chief accountant, and a guard.
Together, they forged documents that allowed Ramjit to withdraw money in the name of the prison chief. The prison administration discovered suspicious withdrawals of 2,600 rupees from the account after four months and initiated an internal investigation.
The investigation fully uncovered the fraud. It was revealed that Ramjit transferred money from the prison chief’s bank account to his personal account.
In this process, the collusion between the prisoner and prison staff played an important role. Currently, Ramjit Yadav, the chief accountant, the guard, and the prisoner’s accomplice have been arrested by the police.
Investigators are studying how they planned the crime and where the money was spent. Earlier, there were reports in India about two teachers inspired by the “Breaking Bad” series who set up a secret drug laboratory.
This incident is recognized as one of the most remarkable examples among the “movie-inspired crimes” that have become widespread in the country in recent years.
