According to Trump, the conversation was productive and yielded significant results. He regarded this contact as an important step towards improving relations between the two countries.
On his social media page, Trump stated that Putin congratulated the US on the establishment of the "long-awaited peace" in the Middle East. The president considers this achievement a major diplomatic success and emphasized that it will help stabilize the situation in the region as well as accelerate negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv.
Additionally, Putin expressed gratitude to First Lady Melania Trump for the attention given to children in Ukraine. Melania's efforts in this regard have been highly appreciated by the Kremlin.
The two heads of state also discussed the emergence of new opportunities in trade and other sectors between Russia and the US after the conflicts in Ukraine end. According to Trump, a meeting of senior advisers from both countries will be held next week.
The US delegation will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, although the meeting location has not yet been determined. Furthermore, Trump indicated that he plans to hold a personal meeting in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
