Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy arrived in Washington, the capital of the United States, on the evening of October 16 for an official visit. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The plane carrying Zelenskiy landed at Andrews Air Force Base. During the visit, the president will hold important negotiations with representatives of American defense companies.
The meetings will discuss additional deliveries of air defense systems for Ukraine, as well as expanding cooperation in the fields of security and defense. Additionally, Zelenskiy will meet with leaders of energy companies to consider ways to ensure Ukraine’s stability, taking into account Russia’s strikes against energy infrastructure.
According to the president, Russia damages the country’s energy system daily, but despite this, Ukraine is taking all measures to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the system. On October 17, the Ukrainian leader will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
The meeting will focus on cooperation between the two countries and new military aid for Ukraine. Zelenskiy emphasized that efforts to reduce war and terrorism threats in the Middle East could also positively influence the resolution of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Furthermore, the Ukrainian president will discuss Trump’s proposal to deliver Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv. Zelenskiy stated that Ukraine plans to use these weapons only against military targets.
Earlier, President Trump announced that he was considering providing Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, which have a flight range of up to 2,500 kilometers. This issue will be a key agenda item in the negotiations scheduled for October 17.
Zelenskiy’s visit to Washington is expected to mark a new strategic phase in Ukraine-U.S. relations. In particular, joint projects in the defense sector and cooperation in economic stability are anticipated to strengthen further.
