Vedam released after 43 years in US prison
Subramanyam Vedam, who was wrongfully imprisoned for murder in the United States for 43 years, has finally been released. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

However, his freedom did not last long, as he was detained by immigration authorities and is reportedly facing possible deportation to India. This was reported by the BBC.

According to information, Vedam was proven innocent in October based on new evidence regarding the death of his former roommate. However, before his release, he was taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

He faces the possibility of being returned to India, as although he is a lawful permanent resident in the US, he was placed on the deportation list due to the 1988 court ruling. In 1980, his 19-year-old student Tom Kinser disappeared without a trace, and after his skull was found with a gunshot wound, Vedam was charged and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1982.

He has always maintained his innocence, and his family has stated that there was no conclusive evidence related to the crime. Expert examinations and DNA analyses conducted with the help of new technologies confirmed his innocence.

Vedam moved to the US with his parents when he was nine months old, grew up there, and also applied for citizenship. His lawyer, Ava Benach, sharply criticized the decision to deport him, emphasizing that it would further deepen the injustice in this man's life.

This case may go down in history as one of the longest wrongful imprisonment cases in the American judicial system. Vedam's fate remains unresolved today, with his family and human rights advocates continuing to fight for justice.
