New information has been announced about the construction of a tunnel under the Bering Strait connecting Russia and the United States. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and the president's special representative for international economic cooperation, the project is valued at at least eight billion dollars. As he emphasized, this project, unofficially called the "Putin–Trump tunnel," could be completed in less than eight years.
The tunnel is intended for railway and freight transport and will serve to develop the joint resources of Russia and the USA. The length of the tunnel under the Bering Strait will range from 98 to 113 kilometers, which is twice as long as the Eurotunnel connecting France and Great Britain.
Dmitriev proposed using Elon Musk's The Boring Company technology, which will help reduce construction time and costs. The idea of the "Putin–Trump tunnel" has generated great public interest, with the report being viewed two million times.
Trump described this initiative as interesting, while Zelensky expressed a negative opinion about it. The idea of creating a transport corridor between Chukotka and Alaska was first discussed in 2007.
At that time, the Ministry of Economic Development proposed a 6,000-kilometer transcontinental highway project, with 102 kilometers planned to pass under the strait. On August 15, 2025, during a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska, Dmitriev presented a project plan that could become a "new world bridge between Eurasia and America."
Thus, the tunnel connecting Russia and the USA through the Bering Strait is not only an engineering achievement but also holds great significance as a geopolitical symbol. Experts consider this project one of the most unusual transport structures of the 21st century.
