Among the national dishes of Karakalpakstan, “Fish Qarma,” which holds a special place, has now been officially protected by a patent. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Ministry of Justice, this dish has been registered as a geographical indication in the state registry. This decision legally protects the name “Fish Qarma” as well as its traditional preparation methods.
At the same time, the quality standards of the dish are being strengthened, creating opportunities for its wider promotion as a gastronomic brand of Karakalpakstan. “Fish Qarma” is based on ancient fishing traditions formed in the areas of the Aral Sea and the Amu Darya delta.
The method of preparing the dish is unique, involving cooked fish, broth, finely chopped vegetables, and small pieces of dried dough. Oil is poured over onions, giving the dish its distinctive taste and aroma.
As experts emphasize, a geographical indication is a type of intellectual property that reflects the connection of a product with a specific region, as well as its quality and popularity. Thus, “Fish Qarma” has been recognized not only as a national dish but also as an important brand of Karakalpakstan’s cultural and gastronomic heritage.
This development will also have a positive impact on the region’s tourism and gastronomy sectors.
