According to the U.S. State Department, Marco Rubio assessed the dialogue between Moscow and Washington as an important diplomatic opportunity to achieve a stable resolution of the war in Ukraine.
The Secretary of State stated that the upcoming negotiations will provide an opportunity for Russia and the U.S. to cooperate in finding a long-term solution regarding Ukraine. This will also help advance the peace process in line with President Trump's views.
It is worth recalling that on October 16, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump spoke by phone, discussing the situation around Ukraine and agreeing to seek diplomatic solutions. At the end of the conversation, it was announced that U.S. President Donald Trump plans to meet with Putin in person soon in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
