Armed groups in Nigeria have started another wave of kidnappings. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In two villages in Zamfara state, 73 citizens were illegally taken away. According to local sources, armed individuals attacked the villages of Buzugu and Rayau during the night.
They threatened the population with weapons and kidnapped people in large groups. Several citizens were injured during the incident, and some houses were also damaged.
The government has sent security forces to the scene, and an investigation is currently underway. The direction in which the armed gangs headed is being determined.
The local population is demanding increased protective measures to ensure their safety. In recent years, the activities of armed groups and terrorist organizations in Nigeria have increased.
Among the most active groups are “Boko Haram” and the “ISIS – West Africa Province” (ISWAP). These groups have been carrying out attacks against schools, passengers, and rural residents in various parts of the country.
Strict penalties, including the death penalty, are established for kidnapping crimes in Nigeria. However, these measures have not fully prevented such incidents.
Kidnapping and extortion are widespread in the northern part of the country and are considered a source of criminal income. Therefore, there is a need to strengthen security and intensify the fight against crime.
