Nigeria has been facing serious problems in recent years due to the activities of armed gangs and extremist groups. Among these groups are Boko Haram and the West African branch of ISIS, ISWAP, which carry out kidnappings, bombings, and terrorist acts in various parts of the country.
Although the death penalty is prescribed by law for the crime of kidnapping, this type of crime remains widespread. Armed groups mainly target villages, schools, and passengers in the northern part of the country, frequently demanding ransom.
The government and security forces are taking measures to address this issue.
