A 64-year-old man named Subramanyam Vedam, who spent 43 years wrongfully imprisoned in the United States, has been arrested again. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He was imprisoned for many years without his innocence being proven, and his re-arrest shortly after his release has drawn public attention. Vedam was arrested in the 1980s as the main suspect in the murder of his former roommate, 19-year-old Tom Kinser.
The student's body was found several months later, and the court sentenced him to life imprisonment without parole. However, after four decades, new evidence proved his innocence, and earlier this year the court acquitted him and released him.
Unfortunately, before he could meet with his family, he was arrested again by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). According to a statement from the ICE agency, he will remain in custody until the deportation process is completed.
Vedam was born in India and was brought to the U.S. when he was nine months old. There is currently a possibility that he will be deported to his home country.
The man's relatives expressed deep distress over the situation. They emphasized that they did not even have the chance to meet Vedam while he was free.
Legal experts consider this case one of the most serious errors in the U.S. justice system, as well as a retraction of freedom.
