A tragic incident occurred in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh after the Diwali festival. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
During the festival, the use of illegal explosive toys resulted in 14 children losing their eyesight. Local media outlets spread this news.
According to information, more than 120 children with various degrees of injuries were admitted to hospitals in the districts of Bhopal and Vidisha alone. Doctors reported that some of them suffered eye damage, and 14 children were injured to the extent that restoring their vision is impossible.
The incident was caused by a homemade explosive device called a "carbide weapon." This device explodes using gas produced from a mixture of calcium carbide and water.
During the explosion, flying metal or plastic fragments caused severe injuries to the children's eyes and faces. Indian officials remind that the sale and use of such devices are prohibited in advance.
However, they were secretly sold in some markets. Police have arrested several sellers, but due to public demand, the government needs to strengthen control and compensate the victims.
Experts emphasize once again that only certified, safe pyrotechnic devices should be used during festivals and that children should be kept away from dangerous toys. It is important to take all measures to prevent such tragedies.
