The Lithuanian government has decided to close all border crossing points between the two countries until 12:00 on October 25 due to hot air balloons carrying illegal cargo being flown from Belarusian territory. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginene issued an official statement regarding this. On October 24, around 20:30 local time, hot air balloons flying towards Vilnius and Kaunas airports were detected, and flights were temporarily suspended for safety reasons.
The airport administration announced that this situation is temporary and flights will resume soon. According to information, this is the third incident involving hot air balloons flown from Belarus into Lithuanian territory within the last month.
Officials consider such actions a threat to national security and emphasize that necessary measures will be taken. These events are escalating tensions in relations between the two countries.
The Lithuanian government is employing all possible measures to ensure security.
