A retired woman living in Miryang, South Korea, became a victim of scammers. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
They introduced themselves as Lee Jong Jae, a star of the famous "Squid Game" series, and deceived the woman. The scammers used images created by artificial intelligence to convince the woman that she was communicating with the real actor and extorted a large sum of money from her.
This was reported by ChosunBiz EN. The scammers initially contacted the woman through social networks.
They introduced themselves as the actor and continued the conversation with the woman via the KakaoTalk messenger. During the communication, the "actor" addressed the woman with kind words, creating an illusion of closeness.
The woman trusted the actor and began transferring large amounts of money to him. The scammers promised to return the funds after returning to Korea.
The scammers increased the woman's trust by creating fake photos of personal identification and driver's licenses using artificial intelligence. They came up with various reasons to demand money from the woman, such as being stranded at a foreign airport or other financial problems.
The woman even transferred $7,500 for a VIP ticket to meet the actor, but the meeting did not take place. When the scammers' demands intensified and the amount extorted from the woman exceeded $350,000, she finally decided to contact the police.
The police of Gyeongsangnam-do Province confirmed that they are investigating the case. However, they emphasize that the chances of the woman recovering the lost funds are very low.
