Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed officials to develop proposals regarding nuclear weapons testing. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This issue is being considered for the first time since the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The President's directive was perceived as a response to US President Donald Trump's statement about resuming nuclear tests.
Putin ordered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, and other relevant agencies to study the matter, discuss it at the Security Council, and prepare appropriate proposals. The Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff emphasized the necessity to begin preparations for the tests as soon as possible.
In particular, it was mentioned that these tests could be conducted in the Novaya Zemlya region. Experts believe that such tests could pose a threat to global security and may lead other nuclear states to take similar measures.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stressed that no strict deadline has been set for preparing the nuclear tests. The decision is planned to be made after fully understanding the intentions of the United States.
