The European Commission plans to officially start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union by the end of this year. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was mentioned in the latest report dedicated to the achievements of candidate countries. According to the report, Ukraine has met the conditions required to open three out of six negotiation chapters.
Brussels officials expect Ukraine to quickly complete work on the remaining areas. This will allow the European Union Council to open all chapters for negotiations by the end of the year.
Ukraine and Moldova received candidate status for the European Union in June 2022. The official start of negotiations is scheduled for June 2024.
This process was organized in Belgium, where the issue was reviewed before the country handed over its presidency term to Hungary. Nevertheless, some experts approach Ukraine's EU accession cautiously.
According to experts, admitting Ukraine to membership within its current territorial borders may be problematic. At the same time, the report notes the need to accelerate reforms aimed at ensuring the rule of law in Ukraine.
The process of joining the European Union is usually long and complex. For example, Croatia conducted bilateral negotiations for eight years before joining the Union in 2013.
Therefore, this process may also take a long time for Ukraine.
