The Singapore parliament has approved new penalties to strengthen the fight against internet fraud. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
From now on, individuals who commit internet fraud will be punished not only with imprisonment but also with corporal punishment — caning. This was reported by The Washington Post.
According to official data, in the first half of 2025, tens of thousands of fraud cases were recorded in Singapore, with financial damages exceeding 385 million dollars. Interior Minister Sim Ann emphasized that each offender will receive at least six strokes of the cane.
This procedure is carried out using special devices after a medical examination. The canes used for punishment are made from flexible materials with a length of 60–120 cm and a thickness of 4–13 mm.
At the same time, the law does not apply to men over 50 years old and all women. The new regulation aims to reduce fraud cases, protect citizens, and ensure the country's financial security.
