Scientists have announced the cause of the strong magnetic storm that reached Earth. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to research conducted by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, changes in the geomagnetic field are related to the recent increase in solar flare activity on the Sun. This was reported on the official Telegram channel of the institute.
Geomagnetic observations recorded a planet-wide magnetic storm. Scientists had predicted that the first of three plasma clouds would reach Earth within 24 hours.
It is now reported that the intensity of the magnetic storm has reached level G4.66, which is one-third of the maximum level. At the same time, scientists emphasize that they did not expect such a sharp increase in the geomagnetic field.
The statement indicates that only the first and weakest part of the initial plasma ejection has reached Earth. As expected, this should have caused weak magnetic storms of levels G1-G2.
However, the situation is developing differently from the forecast. The highest impact was expected to occur around midday.
Additionally, yesterday's strongest solar flare of the year compressed the plasma clouds due to its record speed, affecting their density, temperature, and magnetic properties. This led to the magnetic storm being stronger than anticipated.
