US President Donald Trump announced that Republican Party representatives are working on a bill that envisions sanctions against Russia's trade partners. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He positively assessed this initiative, stating, "The Republicans are developing a very strong bill." According to Trump, Iran is also planned to be included in this document.
The idea of imposing 500 percent tariffs on Russia's trade partners was proposed this spring by Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal. In the summer, Senator Graham stated that the US president supported these tariffs.
However, later Trump emphasized that 500 percent tariffs are unnecessary and that a 100 percent tariff alone is sufficient. Russia is considered one of Uzbekistan's main trade partners.
During the first nine months of 2025, the trade turnover between the two countries exceeded 9.4 billion dollars, while in the same period last year this figure was 8.6 billion dollars. At the same time, in January-September of the current year, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and the US reached 719.1 million dollars, compared to 681 million dollars in the same period last year.
Trade turnover with Iran amounted to 393.3 million and 359.1 million dollars, respectively.
