Eight people have been arrested in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, for attempting to kill the chief prosecutor. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to an official statement from the country's federal prosecutor's office, these individuals are connected to the Albanian mafia and have previously been convicted criminals. It was reported that in July 2025, federal authorities received information about plans to organize an assassination attempt against the Brussels chief prosecutor.
During the investigation, the main suspects were identified and taken into custody. According to media reports, criminal groups involved in drug trafficking have become more active in Brussels recently.
In particular, crimes and violent incidents related to the Albanian mafia are increasing. According to Belgian officials, currently more than 100 dangerous criminal groups are operating in the country across Europe.
In February of this year, several metro stations were temporarily closed following mass shootings in Brussels. These events prompted law enforcement agencies to strengthen measures against crime.
Investigations are ongoing against the eight suspects currently detained. The prosecutor's office is preparing the necessary documents to charge them with attempted serious crimes.
