This word is formed from the English words "rage" and "bait," and it usually refers to content that deliberately provokes a negative reaction in the audience. According to Casper Gratvol, president of the Oxford Language Faculty, the popularity of the word "ragebait" shows that we are gaining a deeper understanding of how manipulations on the internet can attract people's attention.
This term has been used three times more frequently in the past year. Over 30,000 people voted to determine the word of the year.
"Ragebait" is actively used not only among ordinary users and bloggers but also in major mass media. This process is recognized as a distinctive method of engaging the audience.
