According to the annual global retirement index by the publication "International Living," Greece was recognized as the most ideal country for retirees in 2026. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Famous for its thousands of islands, clear climate, and rich cultural heritage, Greece offers comfortable living conditions for retirees. According to research results, as the average life expectancy of people increases in modern times, many retirees prefer to spend their later years abroad.
Taking this trend into account, the index is based on various criteria. These include living costs, quality of medical services, housing market, visa regulations, climate, and the ability to adapt to the local community.
Greece scored highly in most of these criteria. The country offers retirees an affordable and peaceful life, as well as convenient residency options.
In particular, through the "Golden Visa" program, foreigners have the opportunity to obtain a residence permit in exchange for an investment of 250 thousand euros. Additionally, Portugal and Spain, which previously held high positions in this ranking, were noted at lower positions this time.
This was due to visa restrictions and increased living costs in these countries. The list also includes countries such as Italy, Malaysia, and France.
