Peace negotiations to stop the war in Ukraine have stalled at a difficult stage. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The main issue is the fate of the Donbass region. The USA and European countries are discussing how to proceed on this matter.
According to a report by Politico on December 8, senior European officials commented on the position of the USA. The American position is that Russia is demanding Ukraine to give up its territories.
The USA is considering how to achieve this. According to some sources, the USA aims to achieve peace by handing over the Donbass region to Russia.
Ukraine, however, stands firm on maintaining its territorial integrity. On December 8, during a meeting with journalists, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine will not give up its territories under any circumstances.
According to him, this would be neither legally nor morally right. Zelensky also confirmed that the USA is currently seeking a solution that satisfies both parties.
According to Reuters, Russia currently controls 19.2 percent of Ukraine's territory. This further complicates the negotiation process.
On the other hand, former US President Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction on December 7 that Zelensky had not yet reviewed the peace plan proposed by America. While he said Russia might agree to this proposal, he added that Moscow actually wants to control the entire Ukraine.
According to European officials, the main question is whether the USA will act as a mediator in the current situation or take the side of Russia. Ukraine is waiting to see what kind of security guarantees Washington will provide.
Therefore, the resolution of conflicts between the parties remains uncertain for now.
