Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reiterated on December 9 that Kyiv is striving for a stable and just peace. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to him, it is crucial that the Russian leadership is prepared for this process and takes practical steps to stop the war and prevent its resumption. Zelenskiy announced that the Ukrainian side has prepared urgent documents regarding the peace plan and will soon present them to the USA.
The President stated that he discussed the results of the Ukrainian delegation's meetings in Miami and negotiations in Europe. According to him, Ukraine and European parties have firmly formed their positions and now hope to take concrete steps towards peace in cooperation with the USA.
Zelenskiy emphasized that work on the peace plan is nearing completion and announced that the initial 28-point plan proposed by the USA has been reduced to 20 points following consultations with Ukraine. At the same time, he noted that agreements on territorial issues have not yet been reached.
According to the President, Ukraine has no constitutional or international legal basis to give up its territories. The Ukrainian leader hopes that the USA will provide clear and legally binding documents regarding security guarantees.
He stressed that, unlike the empty promises in the Budapest Memorandum, these documents must be reliable. It was also reported that the Ukrainian delegation, led by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of Staff Andriy Hnatov, held negotiations with US representatives in Miami.
The negotiations involved US President’s Special Envoy Steven Witkoff and White House Chief of Staff Jared Kushner. Zelenskiy participated in the final day of these talks and conducted important communications by phone.
The close cooperation between Ukraine and the USA is seen as the main foundation for achieving peace.
