US President Donald Trump has expressed his desire for the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine to end as soon as possible. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was announced on December 11 by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. According to her, Trump is tired of ineffective negotiations regarding the conflict and is now expecting real results.
Leavitt emphasized that the US administration has conducted over 30 hours of negotiations in recent weeks with representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and Europe. Nevertheless, Trump is demanding concrete steps to be taken for the quicker resolution of the military conflict.
The US government intends to continue dialogue with both sides. An important meeting involving representatives from Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Ukraine is expected to take place in Paris on December 13.
Regarding the US participation in this meeting, the White House Press Secretary said: “If there is a real opportunity to reach a peace agreement, we will send our representative.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, meanwhile, outlined the main points of contention in negotiations with the US during a conversation with journalists on December 11.
One of these concerns issues related to the Donetsk region, and the other is the future status of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is under Russian military control. According to Zelensky, the US is proposing that the Armed Forces of Ukraine withdraw from certain areas of the Donetsk region and create a demilitarized economic zone in the east.
At the same time, it is envisaged that Russia would be allowed to keep troops in some areas but would be obliged to withdraw from other regions. Zelensky stressed that the issue of territorial privileges should be put to public discussion.
He stated that such a decision should be made through elections or a referendum, emphasizing that the opinion of the people is paramount.
