On December 11, 2025, Polish border guards discovered an underground tunnel dug for illegal crossing at the Belarus-Poland border. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The tunnel is located near the village of Narewka in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, and it was reported that over 180 illegal migrants entered Polish territory through it. As a result of joint operations by the border service, military, and police officers, more than 130 individuals who used the tunnel were detained.
Search efforts for the remaining migrants are ongoing. According to Andrzej Juswiak, a representative of the Polish border service, the tunnel is several tens of meters long and approximately 1.5 meters high.
The entrance of the tunnel is located on Belarusian territory, 50 meters from the border, while the exit is 10 meters from the barrier on the Polish side. Electronic monitoring systems confirmed that over 180 foreign nationals used the tunnel.
The majority of those detained are citizens of Afghanistan and Pakistan, with some also coming from India, Nepal, and Bangladesh. According to the Polish Border Guard, four illegal tunnels have been detected along the Belarus border in 2025.
Two drivers planning to transport migrants to Western European countries were also arrested. One is a 69-year-old Polish man, and the other is a 49-year-old Lithuanian, both suspected of illegal activities.
Each year, more than 30,000 people attempt to cross the Belarus-Poland border illegally. These figures have remained unchanged since 2021.
The Polish government has installed steel walls, drones, and thermal cameras to protect the border. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that his government will continue a strict policy against migration.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that financial aid will be provided to Poland to strengthen border security.
