According to the German publication "Bild," the world champion was at the stadium for a very short time, approximately 20 minutes. During this time, he mainly interacted with officials, politicians, and VIP guests.
This situation caused dissatisfaction among many fans. Disorder broke out in the stadium.
Some fans threw plastic seats onto the field and attempted to break through security barriers. In an interview with India's ANI news agency, one spectator expressed dissatisfaction, saying they paid 12,000 rupees (approximately 115 euros) but did not have the opportunity to see Messi up close.
Following the incident, officials from the state of West Bengal launched a special investigation. Authorities emphasized that organizational issues would be analyzed to prevent such incidents from recurring.
According to information, 38-year-old Lionel Messi is on a tour across India and is scheduled to participate in various cultural, charitable, and sports events in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi, in addition to Kolkata. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee officially apologized to Messi and the fans due to the unfortunate incident.
It was also announced that a separate investigative committee would be established to thoroughly examine the incident. This event once again demonstrated how carefully the participation of football stars in public events must be planned.
