Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that he has abandoned the plan to join NATO in order to end the war with Russia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Instead of NATO, he aims to obtain security guarantees from Western countries. Zelenskiy held a meeting in Germany with the US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
These negotiations were organized on the initiative of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and other European leaders are expected to join them. According to the President, the security guarantees provided by the US, Europe, and other international partners can protect Ukraine from possible future attacks by Russia.
Such guarantees need to be legally reinforced. At the same time, direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia have not yet taken place.
Currently, due to attacks by Russia on energy and water facilities, hundreds of thousands of people remain without electricity supply. As the war continues, the humanitarian situation in the country is worsening.
